The price is unpredictable.
As beautiful as this new world is, I admit I have learned a lot and gained insights, on the other hand it is useless. Unlike the corner pub or the dance club, I can't get drunk here. There are no poker players at the table whose body language I try to judge whether they are bluffing or not, I can neither smell nor taste the other side of the globe. My vomit left in a toilet will be nowhere to be found. No full immersion replaces the birth of a child or the sight of someone who has just died, his body laid out in a chapel.
Only the total isolation and confinement of my body to an online existence can make me believe that this has higher meaning. The born and the dead, however, still have to pass through the birth canal of an expectant mother and the last breath of the dying.
Of course, even here one can ensure that as few people as possible witness these events as living witnesses. The mothers go alone to the clinics where they have C-section babies and the deceased could be taken away by robot and incinerated sight unseen in fire chambers without a single soul being involved. If that is what we wish, it may come to pass.
I just wonder how babies fit into this picture. You can't have them raised by artificial robot mothers, they would die. Babies learn language only through physical presence and the reflection of the adults around them based on their organic existence.
You can of course make the insane attempt to make all women and men infertile, I don't know, I don't think that can succeed. One could think that people voluntarily do not want to and will not have any more children. My environment teaches me otherwise. I see newborns everywhere. Here, too, one might think that the supervision and rearing of the little ones, as soon as they are two years old, can be left to machines. You then see the little ones sitting in front of screens. Of course, they wouldn't learn anything if you didn't give them the materials to suck on and get in touch with the matter that surrounds them. If the babies are to be prepared for an online existence, I think they would probably come out with crazy minds, of course I don't know, but these are nasty thoughts.
