Hi to you,

I am unsure how to interpret this.

Can you help me with the meaning (I am German by tongue)?

She'd pursed her lips when I'd replied lying and asked me to apply to community college.

Is the word "lying" to be understood as a literal one word answer to her?

Thank you.
