That's a damn good obituary you wrote for your friend, a kind as well as honourable deed and speech. I am moved by its realistic, non-glorified and yet respectful manner. I like the fact that you have told a true story and not just listed his characteristics, as is commonly done about people who have died. I think that the life stories that people have experienced always tell much better what kind of person someone was in life.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing and it brings me great hope and confidence, you may not be able to imagine how much as a stranger is speaking to you right now.

In deed, the dead person gives us a gift precisely because you took heart to write about him, and the act of humility, which can also be seen as an act of maturity, of going to the ship's captain in person and handing him something is much more magnificent than any heroic deed you see in films, but which, if you understand them metaphorically, are precisely those actions that you don't generally hear much about.

These small gestures, the extra effort that one makes, although one would actually be inclined to dismiss it as unimportant, are what make up our humanity, among other things. Certainly the captain will not have forgotten these gesture and will have told others about it, too. So what goes around comes around.

Many thanks and my heartfelt condolences to you.
