But here, I just wrote this:

I am a fool

Ah, ah, many follies I have committed, running after grandiose ideas. I was delighted, excited, inspired, above all that (!), inspired! I listened to those I wanted to believe, because I myself believed what I heard from them, these fools.

Exhilarating! Whenever I touched on something new and it on me, the muse grabbed me or a beautiful feverish activity occupied me for months, sometimes even years!
I ate books, I fed on clever speeches, fool that I am and was!

Wisdom, my unattainable sister, ah, how fast she could run when I was forever trying to catch up with her!
How could I impress my friends, how could I fool in their eyes and them in mine, convince them of the idea, the illumination of the thoughts that had also made mine shine so brightly?

I fool, I must have looked pretty in their eyes, the turbulence and also the innocence must have done that.
But they let me talk, those fools, them too. Yes, yes. One just fancies.

HaHa! I laugh!
The smartest will be the dumbest, the first the last!
What am I? A fool! Oh yes, oh yes.

My king, my master, my ruler, I laugh and I must do it so that you know I still exist!
Laughing I shall pass away, laughing I shall look into the abyss!
For what else? What looks at me from there but my own?
