Las tiendas de mi ciudad ya comienzan a mostrar cosas en venta para decorar nuestros espacios referentes a navidad, pero a penas estamos a finales de septiembre...
He notado que el venezolano a tomado una forma consumista en gastar el dinero antes que se devalúe, si no tiene formas de cambiarlos a dolar, lo gasta prácticamente todo, a veces invierte, aveces gasta en cosas sin sentido, solo por el hecho de que siente que el dinero se hace agua entre sus manos.
En mi caso se va en comida, he visto personas que se dan muchos lujos ante esta situación económica.

The shops in my town are already starting to display Christmas decorations for sale, but it’s only the end of September…
I’ve noticed that Venezuelans have adopted a consumerist approach to spending their money before it loses its value; if they have no way of exchanging it for dollars, they spend practically all of it – sometimes investing, sometimes splashing out on pointless things – simply because they feel the money is slipping through their fingers.
In my case, it goes on food; I’ve seen people indulging in all sorts of luxuries given the current economic situation.

Estoy completamente convencida que lo que están ofreciendo las tiendas en estos momentos es mercancía que les queda de años anteriores y por supuesto que inflan el precio de venta, lo sé porque trabajé en varias de ellas y hacían eso todos los años, entonces estamos comprando mercancía vieja a un precio "actual".
Siento que esto además de motivarnos al consumismo, nos distrae de nuestras realidades actuales que hasta en lo básico como tener servicio eléctrico no son satisfechas.
Sin embargo una parte de mí, quiere dejar de enfocarse en la negatividad de lo que sucede y ser parte de la "vibra navideña" por anticipado, sentir algo de la alegría de esas fechas.

I am absolutely convinced that what the shops are currently offering is stock left over from previous years and, of course, they are inflating the selling price. I know this because I worked in several of them and they did this every year, so we are buying old stock at a ‘current’ price.
I feel that, as well as encouraging us to consume, this distracts us from our current realities, where even basic needs – such as having electricity – aren’t being met.
However, part of me wants to stop focusing on the negativity of what’s happening and get into the ‘Christmas spirit’ early, to feel some of the joy of the festive season.

Es que, si hubiera podido comprar cosas, lo hubiera hecho, por ejemplo, varios aromatizadores que además funcionan como parte de la decoración, huelen divino, me recuerdan los 80's cuando iba de visita a una casa muy lujosa, la casa tenía olores particulares como esos aromatizadores, esas personas traían esas "sales" de España.
Me encanta la aromaterapia, soy muy fan, siempre estoy encendiendo inciensos y aceites aromáticos.
Diciembre es una época de brillos, amor alegrías y paz, creo que siempre queremos adelantarla para olvidar lo que nos pasa. Espero que este diciembre al menos, sea mejor que el anterior.

The thing is, if I’d been able to buy things, I would have done so – for example, a few air fresheners that also double as decorative items; they smell divine and remind me of the 80s, when I used to visit a very luxurious house. That house had distinctive scents, just like those air fresheners; those people used to bring those ‘salts’ back from Spain.
I love aromatherapy – I’m a huge fan – and I’m always burning incense and using aromatic oils.
December is a time of sparkle, love, joy and peace; I think we always want to bring it forward to take our minds off what’s going on in our lives. I hope that this December, at least, will be better than the last one.
