Hoy por fin salí de casa a mi ruta de los 5 KM aprox. Por mi pan favorito, es cierto que vende pan mas cera pero... Este es mas sabroso y vale la pena el trayecto, además que siento mis piernas y manos entumecidas me haría bien algo de movimiento.

También estuve viendo si en las cercanías algunas construcciones sufrieron daños como la mía y la verdad es que en este radio que transité no hay daños que no tomaran temprana reparación.

Dos a cinco KM más allá de este radio, no tuvo la misma suerte.

Today I finally left the house to go on my roughly 5 km run. To get my favourite bread – it’s true they sell better bread elsewhere, but… This one tastes better and is worth the trip; besides, my legs and hands feel numb, so a bit of exercise would do me good.

I also had a look to see if any buildings nearby had suffered damage like mine, and to be honest, within the area I walked through, there’s no damage that won’t be repaired soon.

Two to five kilometres beyond this radius, it was not so fortunate.

De los edificios que construyó el gobierno... Solo uno de los 112 edificios quedó con una pared con una abertura y tomaron medidas pronto a reparar. La verdad los edificios resistieron a los terremotos y continuos sismos. Son muchas familias las que alli viven en torres de 5 pisos divididas en 4 viviendas por piso ¿Se imaginan?

Gracias a Dios no les pasó nada para lo horrible que fue todo lo que vivimos y los edificios más céntricos sufrieron daños importantes en su estructura quedando para demoler.

Dan ganas de llorar.

Of the buildings constructed by the government… Only one of the 112 buildings was left with a wall that had a hole in it, and steps were taken straight away to repair it. The truth is, the buildings withstood the earthquakes and the continuous tremors. There are many families living there in five-storey blocks, with four flats on each floor. Can you imagine?

Thank God nothing happened to them, given how horrific everything we went through was, whilst the buildings in the city centre suffered significant structural damage and had to be demolished.

It makes you want to cry.

Hay algunos pisos que muestran rasgos de humedad. Por experiencia propia y ahora puedo decir, que la humedad es muy peligrosa para un edificio, debilita las paredes, los pisos y las bases. La humedad de mi casa es la que principalmente terminó de ceder ante el sismo. Humedad de lluvia en mi caso, no de tuberías como aprecio en algunos pisos de estos edificios.

Es un llamado a conciencia, aunque sé que como yo, poco hemos podido hacer ante la crisis económica que llevamos cargando desde hace años. Pero, es importante corregirlo inmediatamente que se pueda, no solo nuestra vida corre riesgo, sino nuestros seres queridos y todas las vidas que se encuentran en la construcción.

Ayer estaba trabajando fuerte y dejé a mi hijo lavar la vajilla, dejó el grifo abierto y se desbordó sin querer, la persona que vive abajo corrió gritando atendiéramos el problema rápido pues el agua estaba filtrándose por el piso y la pared, me sentí tan mal por eso, me pidió corrigiera la humedad de mi techo cuando llueve, solo pude pedirle paciencia.

Yo iba caminando por estas calles lindas agradeciendo ver a la gente tratando de regresar a la normalidad en sus vidas, que sus casitas resistieran esta tragedia, aunque mi vivienda sufrió algunos daños, es reparable... No pude evitar un pensamiento saboteador de esos horribles llenos de miedo: ¿Cuanto más pueden aguantar? porque no ha dejado de moverse el piso, los sismos continúan han habido mayores a 3.5, donde vivo se mueve hasta cuando pasa un camión o un carro pesado por la autopista.

Antes estas cosas pasaban desapercibidas, ahora es algo más con lo que debemos vivir y trabajar, en un placebo mental "pudo ser peor"

Y aun hay gente ayudando en los lugares donde ocurrieron hechos muy lamentables, salvando vidas, llevando alimento, gente que puede y es de buen corazón.

Por se rayito de esperanza para todos nosotros.

There are some flats that show signs of damp. From my own experience, I can now say that damp is very dangerous for a building; it weakens the walls, floors and foundations. It was the damp in my home that ultimately caused it to collapse during the earthquake. In my case, it was damp caused by rain, not by plumbing issues as I’ve noticed in some of the flats in these buildings.

This is a call to action, although I know that, like me, there is little we have been able to do in the face of the economic crisis we have been grappling with for years. However, it is important to rectify the situation as soon as possible; not only are our own lives at risk, but also those of our loved ones and everyone living in the building.

Yesterday I was working hard and left my son to wash the dishes; he left the tap running and it accidentally overflowed. The person living below came running, shouting for us to sort out the problem quickly as the water was seeping through the floor and the wall. I felt so bad about it; they asked me to fix the damp in my ceiling when it rains, but all I could do was ask them to be patient.

I was walking through these lovely streets, grateful to see people trying to get their lives back to normal, hoping their little houses would withstand this tragedy. Although my home suffered some damage, it’s repairable… I couldn’t help but have one of those sabotaging thoughts, full of dread: ‘How much longer can they hold out?’ Because the floor hasn’t stopped shaking; the earthquakes continue – there have been some stronger than 3.5 – and where I live, it shakes even when a lorry or a heavy vehicle passes on the motorway.

Before, these things went unnoticed; now it’s just another thing we have to live and work with, clinging to the mental comfort of ‘it could have been worse’.

And there are still people helping out in the places where such tragic events occurred – saving lives, delivering food – people who are able to help and who have good hearts.

Here’s to that glimmer of hope for all of us.
