Like many of you all ready are aware of, and some not - our genesis accounts did only come with a Owners key. For anyone familiar with Dan Larimer and Steem, this is familiar stuff. Explained in short - the private owner key is the highest level of security - then you have another level, the active key. So if you for instance want to use Scatter and play EOSknights but is afraid to paste your owner private key into Scatter, then you can paste in your active key. If a hacker then tries to unstake your EOS you can set an alarm on your account here https://eosauthority.com/alerts and if that EOS is unstaked there is a 3 day window for you to do something with your higher level authority key - the owner key, like cancel the unstaking and change the active key.

Colin on crypto explains it very well here in this video as he walks us through his own process.

Now, of course - things aren't quite done yet. If you like me just went for it and wanted to play around with EOS and Scatter anyhow (I created different accounts that I transferred some tokens to, and kept my main account low key) you have all ready pasted your private owner key into Scatter. If so, then you have to create a new identity and pair that with your active key. Then delete that other identity with your owners key.

And please do your own research before doing anything. Double check and triple check with different sources. This is all so very new for all of us, and a little misspelling could be fatal.
