Greetings Steemit and/or EOS holders,
As some of you know, on June 2nd, the original EOS contract froze all the tokens in their ERC20 contract. If you had participated in the EOS crowdsale and/or traded EOS, you needed to register your EOS wallet with EOS before the snapshot, or else they wouldn’t include you in their genesis block. Many EOS enthusiasts saw some potential problems this process may cause other EOS holders. Some of us thought we should be proactive in doing something that could help some of those problems incase they arise while not inhibiting the mainnet launch.

Thus, EOSclassic (EOSC) was born.

We’re doing something we feel could be beneficial to the community and help supplement any potential pitfalls in other fallback registration methods. As EOS holders ourselves, we feel the prudent thing to do is offer solutions that help the goals of the overall community. Here is the first thing we’re offering.

What is a Claim Drop?
It’s not an airdrop. We simply took the frozen EOS token contract and mapped the balances to match the new contract, enabling a way for anyone to ‘claim’ tokens from a frozen contract with a transaction. With EOSclassic, all EOS token holders have exactly the same amount of tokens they had at the time of the freeze. That may sound confusing, so here’s some examples.

Example 1) Claiming for your own wallet.
Wallet-A has 10 EOS tokens frozen in the EOS contract and wants to claim their EOSclassic. They have the private keys in their private wallet (MetaMask/MEW/Exodus etc…). All he has to do is use our “claimEOSclassicFor” function with the address of Wallet-A as the input data.

Example 2) Claiming for someone elses wallet.
I’m a generous EOS community member, and I see that Wallet-B has 20 EOS tokens frozen in the EOS contract and they haven’t claimed their EOSclassic yet. I don’t own the private keys to Wallet-B so will not be able to spend the EOSclassic, but again, I’m feeling generous and want to help my fellow EOS patrons out. So I use the “claimEOSclassicFor” function with the address of Wallet-B as the input data.

To be clear, just because you claimed coins for an address does NOT mean you own those coins. You must have control of the private keys to that address to spend them. This ensures no cheating or stealing of funds, not even from us. We are not asking anyone to post their private keys. Do not do that. The only case when you may need to use your private key in the process of claiming is if you need to go from Exodus/cold storage/etc.. to MEW/MC.
Enter the obligatory crypto message: DO NOT EXPOSE YOUR PRIVATE KEYS ONLINE.

Why though?
This is crypto. You never know what can happen and given the nature of this space, unforeseen complications could arise. We’re offering this as a method for frozen tokens to become unfrozen and the owner to regain ownership of their asset incase something happens in between switching platforms and the booting up of the mainnet. We feel like having this option is the right thing to do.

SCAM!
We get it. Everything is a scam and you should proceed with caution with claims that could potentially steal from you or endanger your holdings. We agree. You’ll notice that our process does not ask you for your private information or for your private keys.

We know there are other projects that are trying to fork the ETH mainnet at the same time that are calling themselves “EOS-classic”. We’re not them. We’re not trying to launch a competing network to EOS mainnet. We’d like to help build the community, not divide it, like we’ve seen in other “classic” projects.

How to claim
To learn how to claim your EOSclassic, visit our official website is https://eosclassic.co . Our claim process will get much easier as we’re in the process of making a button that will greatly reduce the friction in claiming EOSC. We’re also reaching out to wallet providers to make this claim function easier, if not automatic.
