without a doubt you have seen shadows of poultry. in this contest through the years there have been quite a few posts featuring an array their shadows cast in different circumstances. many of them have rightfully been included among the winning entries. but i am quite sure that in the past 450 contests- approaching a most impressive 9 years- there has never been an entry featuring shadow of a pole tree. so it's about time.
admittedly it's quite understandable because, unlike the sublime shapely shadows of chickens, hens, roosters, jakes, jennies, tom and hen turkeys, geese, ganders and goslings, drakes, ducks and ducklings, and let's not forget the lesser seen quail-, pheasant- and guinea fowl cocks, hens and chicks, pole trees cast rather peculiar and surprising shadows. whereas at the pole shadow's top one might expect to see the form of a street sign or lamp or wires or whatever else a pole may normally be erected for, the shadows of the rare pole tree really do appear like trees. and not only with branches and leaves but the skinny smooth pole itself casts a shadow much like the much broader trunk of a tree. i realize this all sounds like unbelievable nonsense but here is the proof, not only one photo but two just to show that this is not some gimmick or AI fakery.
aren't shadows fun!
i took these photos myself with my S22 phone right here in town. as the pole tree is very rare indeed, i must insist that these precious photos are my property and you may not copy them without my written permission
