sometimes i find shadows that just don't make any sense. they are not exaggerations or special edits to intentionally confuscate or anything like that. even though they are naturally occurring, by looking at the shadow they seem utterly inexplicable . here's an example of a steel grated staircase.
starting from the right side of the photo the ascending steel grated steps make nice vertical patterns that we can only see a small section of because of the parallel structure underneath. but i honestly cannot fathom what is going on with the left side of these photos. at the time i took them i could probably see the entire scene and the shadows, although complicated, made perfect sense. but that was last year and i can't even remember exactly where i took them. they were stored in my file with tons of other shadow shots and forgotten until today when i was looking through the file and rediscovered them. i know i took the photos locally and there are only 3 such staircases nearby that i remember. i became so intrigued that i am going to all three places and find out how the shadows can be so complex. i have the timestamp- July 19 at 15:19-20. the sun in September is at a very different different angle but i should still be able to figure out what caused such a bizarre combination of patterns. and who knows, maybe it will be even stranger then.
notice how the left side here is similarly mixed up yet totally different than the first shot. but what i really like are the little holes on the front edge of the steps making the dots of light on the step's shadows. we have a saying here; prikken over i'en, which literally means the dot over the i, meaning it's the little detail that completes the scene and makes it stand out. happy hunting
