the above photo is my entry but let's take a closer look at the shadows this boardwalk by the sea is making
sometimes i prefer shadows which closely resemble whatever is making the shadow
when i take the shot from closer to the rock more of the shadows can be seen. though the ends of the boards form a straight line their shadow is curved
from even closer to the rock the shadows of the entire boards become visible while here both end lines appear relatively straight
i tend to look for natural distortions which give equally correct depictions of reality but from a perspective that focuses on including the kinks which are part of our existence
while the boardwalk itself it straight on both sides i like how the shadow line on the left side is straight even though the landscape is quite uneven. meanwhile the right side curves dramatically. of course this is due to the position of the camera and angle of perspective. if i had moved the camera to line up the right side straight then the left side would be all curved
remember the boardwalk is level
it's also possible to edit in a little color for added effect if you're into that.
anyway these are some of the things i look for when i'm out shadow hunting in nature or on the streets. of course it's possible to make your own shadows. there the possibilities are endless. personally i like to go on walks different times of day and see what i can find. more often than not i manage to discover shadows i hadn't expected.
