i grew up in a house by a pond called morse's pond. i always thought it strange but the morse family whose house was at the opposite end of the pond owned it. their daughter who lived in that house and her cousin were both in my class at school. anyway our house had the best view of the sunrise. sadly that house is for sale now. even though we were seven siblings none have chosen to stay in the town.
the next photo is my contest entry
strangely enough i never really saw the sunrises because i always slept as late as i could and i had no interest in photography only years later did i really appreciate the dawn by the pond. arriving from norway i would be jet-lagged when i revisited so i woke up before dawn. the cool serene mornings there are an ideal time for reflections on the still water
though the pond is actually a dammed up brook, the largest section of it is roughly oval shaped, the longest stretch being east to west and our house was at the western end. further west the pond changes shape and is shallower. when i grew up that area had no road access and was full of weeds and surrounded by uninhabited woodland.
like i mentioned i missed out on countless great morning scenes back in those days. moonrises were great though. winter evenings out skating with the full moon rising...
to quote george bernard shaw: "youth is wasted on the young"
a ray of sunlight shines through an opening in the trees to the east and highlights the morning mist. i hope the new owners of the house are early risers and photography buffs
