What is the appropriate response to temptation?
We have identified two central ways through which temptation comes. One is through persecution and affliction, the other is through being deviated by desires and seduction. Regarding the second category, the correct answer is no other than closing the doors that we could have opened. What do you want so much? You have to give it to the Lord. I consider that among the desires that can create problems are not only those of the man of the past, that have no place in the life of a Christian, but also the acceptable desires that, however, have not been fulfilled 100%. For example, when I was single, I had a huge desire to get married. Shortly after being a believer, at age 21, I decided to wait for God to introduce me to my husband. However, I thought I would do it pretty much the following month. As the months passed, I began to get impatient. I wanted God to bring me a husband immediately. That strong desire was, in fact, one of those James described as those who open the door to temptation. And that's exactly what happened to me too. Given the extraordinary strength of this desire, I fell into many traps and suffered a lot. Until at the end I said to God: "I do not care if I have a husband, if you want me to have one, perfect, but if not, I will continue to love you and serve you in the same way." As soon as I did that, as soon as I really solved the situation by giving up completely, guess what happened: I was never tempted to do it again! And after a few years, God really brought me my husband. What I want to say, brother and sister, is that if there is something that you desire very strongly (a wife, a husband, a career, etc.) you have to give it to God and decide within yourself that even if God does it. Do not give what you want so hard, this will not be a big problem. In any case, He always knows what is best. You will continue to love and serve it, no matter how things turn out. Delivering a problem to God and accepting whatever results He can bring us, closes the doors to temptation. You can not be dragged by the passions, if you do not have passions! In short, even desires that basically conform to the Word of God, can lead us to temptation if we do not give them COMPLETELY to God.
If the temptation now takes the form of persecution and affliction because of the Word, then the answer once again is to resist, knowing that God is not far away. He is with you. He will never abandon you or betray you, says His Word (Hebrews 13: 5). As Paul also told us: "As you are partners in afflictions, you are also in comfort" (2 Corinthians 1: 7). And 2 Peter 2: 9a tells us:

"The Lord knows how to rid the pious of temptation"
