Usually, I’m not into the little fests that pop up all over the place over fruit in a given year. Since I’m switching worlds I thought I might as well try something new. Admission was only a couple of bucks and it was free parking.
Right as you walked in after paying the admission fee they had a stand of blueberries for sale. $5 per container. They still had quite a few green unripe ones mixed in. We bought a couple to put later into pancakes. They were not as amazing tasting as I was hoping coming from a Blueberry Fest. I could have mistaken them as from the store.
As expected this place was not that big. I was a little disappointed just how many of the stalls at this fest were just there to collect your personal information. Many of them were “giving away” $100 to $500 gift cards.
I asked for some basic information about why they needed to collect the personal information and what they were going to do for it regarding the giveaway. The younger not quite kids they had running these giveaway stands did not have very convening answers. So we just skipped over them.
Thankfully it was a decent overcast day. We ended up staying for only around an hour. That was more than enough time to walk over almost the entire place twice. It was quite a small fest but sometimes you find a hidden gem or a reason to come back the next year.
On a normal day, this place was just a park. One I had not been to in ages so it was at least interesting to see how they used the space. We very quickly made our way down to the “petting” zoo and animal exhibit area.
This place was more for the kids. They had some ponies people could ride if they were under 125 lbs. and short. Needless to say, I did not even enter the line as a joke. I’m sure a pony would have taken one look at me and fallen over dead out of shock.
There was also another line that had some rabbits and I think a goat that you could pet. You could also go paint some rocks or play some carnival games in this section of the fest. We decided to go back into the main part of the fest and check out all the stalls selling things.
Before we got too far along in the main areas I stopped to pose in front of the Berry Cute baby contest. You might find this shocking but I did not win. I know some will be disappointed. Maybe I’ll get them next year if I go back.
One of the great things about the state I’m in is they are not going to whine and moan about certain types of t-shirts. You could say many of the kinds of stalls here were filled with my kind of people.
Dam right people in this area don’t dial 911. They just put you in the trunk and dump you into a swamp with a gator.
As far as how clean some of the items were being sold in terms of saying they had on them. These shirts were rather tame. There were some booths I’m not even going share the photos I took of as they are a bit more vulgar and I liked the creativity of those items being sold I don’t want to give anyone any ideas.
Along with lots of clothing and item stalls, there were quite a few places set up for food This little pizza setup caught my eye. Since this was a Blueberry Fest I was not in the mood for pizza so I ended up skipping over it.
I was kind of shocked by the lack of food places that at least attempted to go with the theme of a Blueberry Fest. Many of them could have a blueberry sauce or make some kind of attempt to include blueberries. Nope. This was not one of those kinds of fests.
One person who we sat next to later on ordered a giant turkey leg and discovered his meal was rather undercooked. The guy even went back to the turkey leg stand and got another one that was not up to his standards. Those legs looked dried and so over pieced I’m shocked they even had someone willing to try one.
If I was going to get any real food here I would go with the pizza. There was also stuff like hotdogs for sale. Not as much stuff as you thought there would be however. Those darn giveaway stalls took up quite a lot of space that other vendors could have taken instead.
Since this was a Blueberry Fest I went for dessert instead. Some shortcakes with blueberries and whip cream mixed in. They were trying to upsell us to the blueberry and strawberry shortcake. I admit I’m sure that would have been a bit better. This was not bad I just wish the blueberries had a little more flavor in them.
At the center of this entire fest was an area set up for some “world famous” Frisbee-catching dog. The show was not starting anytime soon and there were just not enough things to do at the fest to keep us around for hours. So while it would have been cool to see this was one thing we ended up skipping out on waiting for.
Final Thoughts
This is just one of those things it was nice to go out once and check out. I was not expecting it to be mind-blowing or anything close to that. Since I’m not normally the kind of person to go to a random little fest let alone anything bigger it was something different to do.
As we were leaving the place started to fill up a lot more than I was excepting. We ended up getting there at the start. It was at least nice to beat the crowds and get to explore this one before it became shoulder-to-shoulder traffic inside.
