Ok, see I understand then what you are saying. I am a community leader personally, so auto-votes help support our people - it's not just about the curation, so I can't agree on them being a thing of the past with all the communities and organizations out there. One thing you could to, to counteract it, and keep people powering up, is similar to what edicted@edicted was talking about. Why not just add an interest rate to HP? I'm willing to bet that any witness who loves this chain would go for a .25 - 2 % cut in witness rewards to fund the 'interest pool' to give people an incentive to stay powered up. DAI has a 2% APR just for holding and Tezos has a 4.67% for staking. If you put a limit on it, say no interest for 45 days or something like that, I'm sure people would be attracted to powering up at even a 1% return.
