As someone who works overnight shifts in a 7 on 7 off schedule, meaning I work 1 week and off the other, you can somewhat adjust your sleep schedule.
After night 7 at work, I usually try to give myself only 4 hours of sleep. Once I'm awake, I try to get some chores and errands finished.
By around 2100 to midnight, I am generally exhausted to the point of dozing off. This is when I head to bed and wake up the next morning after allocation 8-9 hours to sleep.
Of course, this means that I would have to adjust back by the end of my 7 days off of work. Then, the cycle repeats.
