Have you looked into the recent cryptobrewmaster@cryptobrewmaster updates? A new recipe and several production buildings made it into the game. Now, you can "make" most of your own ingredients, for a price and your time, of course. The only thing that's missing is a place to make the yeast.

In terms of price, it's gotten a bit pricey. At the time of this post, here are the renting rates for other buildings:

While it is cheaper per day when you rent a building for 28 days, they seem hefty! You are paying over 1100 CBMs (almost 70 HIVE) a month if you were to have all the buildings running at the same time. This doesn't include the times you'd have to pick up finished products yourself. In realistic terms, it's less than $10 you'd have to spend.

This becomes trickier when each ingredient has their own production timer. It's not easy to juggle half a dozen timers. I know because I work in a lab and juggling multiple things is my specialty. I don't want to become obsessive when it comes to claiming every single item. By that point, the game isn't fun anymore.

From an economic standpoint, spending that 70 HIVE a month is doable, but makes little sense. Unless, you are one of those people who automate things. Then again, if you were to do that, you'd make more money trading in the greater market instead of this little pond.

What is my strategy then?

The water tower is definitely a staple to the brewing operation for now. As the game evolves, I'm sure that could change. This is a building I would rent 24/7, especially when everything seems to need water.

Then, choose another building/ingredient to focus on for 28 days. Yeah, it seems slow, but it will feel much more affordable. Instead of forking over 1100 CBMs every 4 weeks, I'd be paying 500-ish. It would also be easier for me to grab most of the ingredients coming off of the line.

Should I be running out of water, I won't renew the lease on a second building. Give it a few months and I could replace all the neutral items in my inventory. Would it be profitable? Most likely not, but I'm not expecting this game to generate revenue for me. As the development team states, this game is not an investment.

You play a game until it's become a chore. Then, you quit. Your time is more valuable than preoccupying it with games.
