I had a dream ...
I saw several points of awareness - floating over the earth. They looked down at earth and decided to go down into a large body of water to experience what it was like.
The points individually began to argue for each of their perceptions/points of view. After all, they had direct experience and each could prove their point of view. The arguments got louder and louder and more aggressive, when suddenly, all the points were thrust out of the water. It was then that they looked around and noticed that each point was but a finger on the hand of God. They suddenly realized that they were all aware, and yet, still part of a greater awareness. An understanding emerged that judgment and attack on other’s perceptions had held each point captive in a limited awareness.
I have noticed that I frequently judge others’ views of reality that conflict with mine. I often promote my ideas as the most logical choice offering “seeming proof” of why my point of view must be so. I realized my experience was - that most people tend to do this, and I surmised that it is because we want desperately to gain acceptance with others in our community. But, when we have a significant point of view that varies from most of the community, it can challenge our reality and make us feel strange and separate. Why don’t I see it the way most others do? Am I crazy? This is a strong motivation of fear that can drive judgment. If I can see others (and myself) as just having what Access Consciousness calls "an interesting point of view", then I can think about their experience from a potentially wider awareness. So I don’t have to grow more fingers, I just need to hold more hands.
