I actually only use google maps (where I save where I want to go: dinners, going out, things to do etc), and I have used instagram a lot actually. I have found so many pretty places just by searching on places I'm going, and also follow accounts like "visitcalifornia", "visitsantacruz" and food accounts like "lasvegasfood", "sanfransiscofoodguide" etc.
To find places to eat I mostly use TripAdvisor. But I think one of the best thing to do is to get to know people who have been on the trip, or the best: get recommendations from locals! :D
