There was a clip posted on social media sometime ago, it was short but it got me thinking about how our law operate. Infact it changed my perspective about implementation of policies and those that it's affect. The video clip was a usual one, infact it is a scene I'm used to but it was the comment section that got me thinking. The video clip was about a woman that was nearly beaten to death because she stole bread from the market, the police got involved and still locked her up in the station instead of giving her medical attention.
Now what got me thinking is the investigation that was done to discover are her reason for doing what she did, it turns out that she and her family have not eaten for days, she did what she did so that she and her family can escape death by starvation. Maybe she lied, I have no way of confirming but someone said, look at how a thief that stole bread was treated, If this is the same treatment our leaders and politicians get after looting our public funds, there will be less corruption in our country.
This really got me thinking, who exactly is the law meant to prosecute? You might be wondering, what does this have to do with the theme of this week prompt? well I'm still getting there. Most people might not have noticed, but for those paying attention, there is a possibility you might have watched a documentary or report by an environmentalist or any of those who advocate for preservation of the ecosystem. They always complain about heavy dumbing of waste in the water; ocean, sea e.t.c Naturally you would think it is regular citizens that are doing this but not really. You see average citizens can dumb their waste on the road, street drainage systems.
But you see those heavy dirt causing real damage in the sea and causing our ecosystem real damage, that belongs to large corporations. They have the resources to drive their waste that far hoping the tides do justice to it but why are they so confident about this, I will tell you. I don't know about other countries but in my own country, most people in charge of stuff like this are on these companies payroll, payed to turn blind eye and deaf ears. So it will never make it to the news, even if it does, probably a stubborn journalist decides to speak up about it, these companies will either kill the news or bury the journalist under thousands of law suit. With the kind of judges we have these days, believe me; the righteous does not stand a chance.
This is what happens when people have what it takes to cover up their atrocities, average people will be thrown in jail if they attempt something like this but for those up there, it is just business as usual. Here is something most people are not aware of, majority of companies dumbing waste in inappropriate places are owned by our leaders. For example, people like governors, senate president, ministers, or presido. If the owners of these companies are any of these people I have listed, how exactly will the country or our law enforcement agencies prosecute them?
You know that thing you were taught in school about "No one is above the law" it is a myth or an illusion, there are people above the law, people capable of doing things that will shame the devil, but the law can't do anything about it. It is not as if this is how laws should be implemented but it is just how it is done in most countries especially in a country like mine. I'm not trying to bad mouth my county but I have been around long enough to know how the game is played.
So yeah, the government are more lenient with companies because those companies are the tax payers, their owners are also in government, in fact they run the country. So it is a game of power and Value. We might all be called citizens but there are those the government and our laws consider as high citizens, people not deserving of prosecutions.
