The usage of drugs and consumption of alcohol is no longer something new in our society, it has been a trending discussion and area of concern for over a decade. Depending on the society which has influence on what is considered acceptable among the populace residing in the area but that doesn't change the fact that both substance are both harmful to human health. Over the years, due to the heavy usage of drugs in most developing countries which has brought about its condemnation in the society people now prefer to opt for other substances that doesn't seem to be condemned, A substance named alcohol.
It is no doubt that alcohol is more socially acceptable compared to drugs, since it is considered has a substance of refreshments in most homes and influential locations. Though the reasons why people take alcohol differs but it doesn't make the effect any pleasant. One would think that since alcohol is more socially acceptable that means it is less dangerous than drugs but then in this present Era it so obvious that people have ways of merging drugs with different kind of beverage drink either alcoholic or not. Considering this, it doesn't really matter if one is greater evil than the other, choosing alcohol over drugs just seem like an act of pretence to consume drugs in a socially acceptable manner.
In another view, To an extent based on general view the effect of drugs are considered to be more damaging than alcohol, though it might just be an assumption but from what I have seen and witness most alcoholic drinks have a specific percentage of alcohol which serves as an indicator to anyone who which to consume it but when it comes to drugs, as you all know we have different categories and types of drugs, in this regard I'm more concerned about drugs that are becoming socially acceptable in some places despite being illegal for example weed, cocaine e.t.c this kind of drugs don't come with any form of prescription, it is consumed based on the users discretion. When it comes to the effect of consumption of drugs, the higher the dose the greater the effect.
If I have the power to ban alcohol would I?
Like I said earlier, compared to drugs alcohol is considered to be more socially acceptable which might raise some kind of public rage against such policy that is determined to ban alcohol consumption which might lead to policy somersault, instead of trying to ban alcohol consumption I would prefer to focus the policy on reducing the rate of alcoholic drinks production and percentage of alcohol in drinks. We have a lot of alcoholic drinks that are not registered and such drinks contains a lot of harmful substances and higher alcohol percentage compared to the registered alcoholic drinks.
This way I would be able to avoid public rage and disagreement with the policy because they will also be of the opinion that I'm just trying to eradicate harmful substances in the society instead completing banning their source of entertainment. Moreover there is nothing consumed in excess that doesn't have effect which means as long as alcoholic drinks are consumed in moderation the effects would be manageable.
Do I think it will make the society any better.
Ability to fully determine the effectiveness of the policy can only be determined after the implementation of the policy, based on my own assumption formulating such policy will definitely eradicate the production of unhealthy alcoholic drinks and reduce the consumption of alcoholic drinks, though the possibility of people consuming alcohol excessively can not be fully determined.
