Some time ago, we only heard of kidnapping on radio or read about it online but today, it has approached our doorsteps.
It has been barely a week since my aunt's boyfriend got kidnapped. A ransome of about two million naira was demanded and paid to secure him back.
These days, kidnapping has become something very common. The annoying part is that they don't select who to kidnap, they don't run background checks first.
Whether you are rich or not, whether your family can raise the ransome or not, when you fall into their trap, the only option you have is to pay or something terrible will happen to you.
A lady who came from a very poor background in my place went to a bar to drink, only for her to see the place surrounded by gun men who forced them to enter a vehicle that took them away to an unknown destination.
She was charged one million naira, but her family couldn't provide the money, so the kidnappers dealt with her mercilessly. In the end, the family were able to pay five hundred thousand Naira and she was released. From what we heard, they had to sell one of their family lands to raise the money.
In such a scary and unsafe world, anything can happen to anyone, anywhere, any day. For instance it happens that I am a victim and I am asked to pick a fictional character to come for my rescue. My choice would be Ahmed, the interpreter, from the movie titled “Guy Ritchie’s, The Covenant,” released in the year 2023.

Sergeant John Kinley was on his last mission in Afghanistan, with a native interpreter, Ahmed. During the mission, they were attacked by Taliban who killed all their teammates.
John sustained a lot of injuries that sent him to coma. Ahmed, the interpreter, instead of abandoning him to die, decided to risk his life and that of his family to ensure he saved him even though he was unconscious.
Because of how eager the Taliban were to terminate John, they positioned men at different areas and borders to ensure no American passed that way.
Ahmed, in his wisdom, decided to take a rough path that was hidden, climbing mountains, hills and going through the woods, carrying John who was in coma till he brought him to safety.
Although Ahmed has no super powers like the Flash, Superman, Doctor Strange and so on, he is such a hero that I can not overlook.
Many people would have left the sergeant especially when they knew that it was going to pose a threat to their lives and their families. But Ahmed wasn't so, in fact even when the sergeant was no different from a dead man, Ahmed didn't get discouraged.
This is the kind of man I would love to rescue me. Someone that will come for me not just because it is his job but because he values my life and is willing to go any length to keep me alive.
