The Great Mother Earth
I was in my chamber that night when I heard a knock at my door. Deep within me I knew that something was wrong somewhere. My instincts kept telling me that there was something bothering the master since last night with the looks on his face but I didn't want to conclude. "Who's there" I responded to the knock, it's the guard. "Master sents for you", the man said. I knew it already, Okay! Tell him I am on my way.
On getting to the meeting hall, I saw everyone sitting in dismay and confusion, at this point different thoughts started coming into my mind, what could be wrong ? I was contemplating within me as I draw near to the king and paid homage.
"You are welcome my beloved friend, sorry I had to call for you again" the master said. "It's okay sir, you know what is best for all of us and for the betterment of everyone you do whatever you do, speak on sir, your servant listens" I replied.
You remember the project I told you about the new planet I am creating right? " Yes I do" , I replied. "Very good, we have had all that we need in place, every plan has been made and it looks so beautiful. Please display the blue print" the king added. Now you see, these are the kind of creatures we want to live there, here are plants that I intend to supply food for the creatures that will live on it and there is my expensive project man.
"It's very wonderful," I responded. But you said the project would be executed some weeks ago, why hasn't it be done? My faithful servant, I trust you for your wisdom. That is the reason for which I called this meeting. "I have put every other thing in place In that planet but it doesn't seem to look like what I want it to be" said the king.
The place seem to be in chaos and disorderliness. I tried to gather the waters in one part of the planet but it just doesn't work, each time I put it away, it overflows and return back." Please let's take a small walk" the king said, I followed him and he bagan showing me how water covered the entire planet and everywhere down there was dark.
I felt so bad catching that sight, so I asked, how would your projects survive on this planet, seeing how water has taken over everywhere? Where would you plants take their roots from? Where would the man also build his house? He looked at me and shook his head without saying anything.
"You may go" he said, when I left his presence, I felt very bad, I knew I needed to do something, though I am the last of my kind, though I have a very special place in his presence, again I know that I do make valuable contribution in the decision making processes but I really can't afford to see my master go sleepless nights, who knows what great thing his new project would become sooner or later? hmm! I know I needed to do something more.
Early the next morning, I went into the king's chamber and told him I have solution to the problem and he ask what it was. I didn't answer him but requested that he followed me. When he did, I took him to the project and told him how that I should go to this planet. I have the inherent ability to confine water in one location and give a place for man to settle on, for plants to grow and other creatures to survive on.
The master tried to kick against it because I am one of his favourite elements but I told him I have made my choice, so he summon an urgent meeting and everyone was satisfied with the idea. I could see the joy on his face. At last his new project is coming to life and at thesame time, you could see the dismay on his face because I was going to make a big sacrifice.
Before everyone left his presence, he called my name ' earth', I answered yes your majesty, for this price you chose to pay for me to be happy, I am going to reward you . The entire planet will be called earth after your name, the special project that I am making called man would also be formed from you.
Everything on that planet will come from you, you will have to ability to give and to take, you will be become the superintendent of that new planet. On you will plants grow, you will decide whether it yields or not. I hand over all the affairs of the planet earth to you. You will watch over man and every activity and report to me. There is no life on earth that can survive without you.
Be it as you please your majesty and so it come to be that earth, gave up it place to be with it's lord and come down to complete the project of his master and everything happened as it was planned. Life came to be on earth, most of the things that have life depends on the earth to survive and at the end when they die they still return unto the earth.
Everyone other elements envied earth because of the great honor the king bestowed upon it. Earth realized that the project was all about it and not what it thought at first.
