The abuse of power happens everywhere in our society today. You can see it in homes, in schools, in offices, on the street and everywhere.

Once people get the opportunity to hold some measure of relevance that places them above others, they feel like small gods.

I know not everyone is that way, but the majority of people can be guilty of this when trusted with power.

Instead of using the position God or the people gave them for the good of everyone, they use the power under their control to gratify their selfish interests.

I have been in certain screenings for jobs and I saw how bad people can be when given small authority.

You will be in a long queue for hours waiting for your turn to arrive, only for those controlling the organization to bring their candidates from nowhere and attend to them leaving you under the scorching sun and the unfavorable environment condition.

As casual as that act looks, it's an abuse of power. Since the organizations were the ones that gave the order for a queue as the best way to get everyone attended to, why not follow protocol?

Those who left their homes early and came to be attended to should be given attention until everyone is finally attended to but the reversed is always the case.

Sometimes those who come early end up being the ones to be attended last or even the next day and if you complain, you would be punished and the weight of the punishment may vary from what mood the boss is in that moment.

I wonder how we got here in society today, do we really have the fear of God and love in our hearts? You would be marginalized and forced to stay mute.

This thing is not only common in screenings, even in banks I have seen several cases like that and I think we ought to start doing something about it as a society.

Imagine you were in the victim's shoes, how would you feel if you were treated with such disregard and disrespect? How would you feel if your right is trampled upon right before your face and you couldn't do anything about it?

One of the recent abuses of power I saw happened a few months ago; a young boy of around 18 years was working for a young man of around the age of 22.

The young boy manages a snooker spot for his boss and they had an agreement to save the money in the boy's ( the one working) Opay account since they didn't have an account for the business yet.

He gave the boss his logging details and the account has been under the boss’s custody ever since.

One of those days, the boy decided to keep some money that isn't for the business in the account because he has no alternative. Sadly, his boss took the money and squandered everything.

When he needed the money, he went to withdraw only to realize that nothing was in the account.

Returning to the shop he met the boss and asked what transpired with the money and explained to him that it was not business money and he needed it.

Instead of the boss finding a way for them to resolve the issue amicably, he began slapping the boy publicly.

It was quite embarrassing, we had to rush to the scene to intervene, and settle the dispute, however after the incident, the young boy quit the job and after several pleadings, he refused to take the job back.

I understand that a boss is like the master of the business but no matter what happens, raising your hand on someone because you are superior to them is not acceptable.

That's very disrespectful, in this case the boss was even wrong, he touched the money he shouldn't and instead of finding a way to solve it, he chose to use his power as boss to abuse his subject.

No matter where God places us in life, we must never forget that it is a privilege; anybody can be there but God chose you, and you will not be in that position forever, eventually you will leave and another person will take your place.

And the same God who elevated you can uplift anyone anytime, we should never treat anyone less because we have the power to do so.
