Every constituted authority will tell you that you have the liberty to do whatever you want; you are human and have equal rights as every other person.

Then you become comfortable and begin to spread your wings, only to do something one day and receive a serious sanction.

Back in my junior secondary school, I was first taught the fundamental human rights, and I was happy that I was well protected by the law and also given the liberty to enjoy my life and to do anything I desired to do as a citizen of the country.

And I was truly living with the mentality that I can do things based on the rights that the law has stated as my privileges.

However, when I got to senior class, I realized that to every right, there are boundaries/limitations; if you dare cross them, you would be dealt with appropriately by the same law that gave you rights. Quite funny; it is just like the law is giving with one hand and taking with another.

However, we must understand something: most times, those limitations are to restrict people from misusing their rights or getting themselves hurt.

But with everything in life being regulated by the law, are we truly free? Can we do just anything we desire as humans and as citizens of a particular country?

The question looks almost rhetorical, but it's not; we all know the answer is “No.” Even those in government with power whom we consider “above the law” have limits to what they can do, no matter how much they desire to do those things.

Crossing a single line beyond that will attract punishment from higher authorities, especially if it's not something that is in their favor.

With this, we can say free will is just a lie we forced ourselves to believe. We can only enjoy freewill at a measure, there is a length that freewill cannot be exercised; whether it is something beneficial or not. Whether it is innocent or not.

If that length is reached, your free will becomes useless. The best you can do is follow the laid-down rules and regulations; going further than that will be like inviting trouble upon yourself.

The truth is always bitter, and most people can't take it, but for our good, we must train ourselves to accept it.

Freedom is not really free; you have the right to do anything you want to, but not everything you do will be smiled upon.

You can do anything you want to do, and that's not a lie, but not everything you do will be accepted.

Our world is guided by laws; those laws are what regulate the capacity of our free will.

Whatever you want to do must be according to those laws. If you can keep it, then you can exercise your free will, but if your free will is outside those laws, you are already fighting the authority, and you will not escape the consequences.

Now it's up to you to conclude whether you have free will or we are all regulated by expectations and laws
