Gone are the days when people had to stress themselves to search for things on the Internet or manually gather information; these days, the answers we are looking for are just at our fingertips.
For someone like me, AI has become almost everything: my companion, my dictionary, my editor, my designer, name it. Prior to this time, I asked people for help, I asked people for ideas, I sometimes paid for certain works, especially designs, but it is no longer so.
My AI does the work, all I need to do is to use the right prompt, ask the question, or simply get it a clue to the information I need, and everything would be provided to my taste.
There have been a lot of controversies about AI. Some say it is good, some say it is bad. The truth is, there is nothing on earth that doesn't have bad sides, no matter how good it is. Even the drugs we take when we are ill to restore our health have side effects.
Food that is a basic necessity in life also has a bad side. Is it a programme designed by an imperfect man that would not have a negative impact on life?
As good as the AI is, as supportive as it is, we can not deny the fact that it has also been causing a lot of setbacks in our society.
Using AI is completely harmless; in fact, anyone who isn't using it is missing out, but completely depending on AI for everything is very bad.
I use AI a lot, but most times, I just use it for corrections, for beautification, and to generate ideas. I love AI a lot, but my work is always original; AI can only polish it for me.
I consider giving AI everything to do for me as the highest form of laziness, and I can never call such work mine because it belongs to the AI.
Sadly, most people see AI as their shortcut; they channel everything to it. Some are so lazy that they don't even try to edit the work. They presume that since it is AI-generated, it should be flawless. Unfortunately, they end up embarrassing themselves.
AI was invented to make life easy, but many have allowed it to make them lazy. These days, almost everything is AI-generated. Originality is scarce.
And the problem is this: creativity is also dying. The more we give to machines what we ought to do ourselves, the more we deprive ourselves of the opportunity to learn and to grow.
That ability for critical thinking that warrants us to come up with creative ideas will gradually get eroded, and our brains will become dormant. Instead of doing things ourselves, we would become AI-dependent, and in the case where AI is not available, we may be stranded.
My great concern is that most people are not seeing the bad side to this, and if we continue this way, eventually, the place of creativity will be silenced in the human race. What ought to be a blessing would eventually turn into a disadvantage.
