Most friendships these days are formed around similar opinions or worldviews. It is quite rare to have those with conflicting political views even accomodating each other these days, talk less of forming genuine connections and affection towards one another. What if it is family though?
We have been engineered to believe that there is good and bad in whatever side we choose and the other side is a representation of evil. Many choose to stay neutral or stay silent as a result for the fear of being judged. We further get comfort with the mob and our ability to hound those who disagree in a mafia like manner.
If we genuinely believe the other side represents evil, then it becomes a problem. We have seen this live with targeted assassinations and actions towards those of dissenting beliefs by random people in history who have been radicalised over time with this message. As much as we try to downplay the transformation to radicalisation it is quite evident that it exists because of this message and viewpoint.
So to have family in this category is quite a lot. How does one for instance forge ahead with extremely divergent viewpoints with their lover or children. Do we change our convictions because of this ( which I've observed most people do), or do we simply rebuke them?
A few days ago we had Ed Sheeran crying on stage apologising, with rumors about his own family openly abandoning him over the Tour controversy. That's a real issue. It requires all the wisdom, maturity and values in the World to overcome.
