To me it's actually not surprising that more people are increasingly craving the past. You also kind of nailed a potential cause as the Uncertain nature of the future.
I think life pretty much goes in cycle, and all things follow. Someone once told me in the same vein that all 'new ideas' are thoughts that were merely repackaged and regurgitated from an old playbook. Even the bible (if you don't mind my referencing) had people running back to God over and over after they had turned away from him to venture on their own.
The more things change, the more they remain the same I guess
