I am an unapologetically against a welfare system especially for those without 'legitimate grounds'. My parents worked incredibly hard to take care of us and never relied on handouts so I guess that also helped form a big part of my philosophy. They never complained, and made meaningful contributions to their societies up until their retirement, and later my Dad's passing.

Looking at the riots going on in Europe I am no expert, but it is certainly interesting to see how the opinions are being formed around the current climate. There are a tons of opinions going on about what has led to the current climes from Economic, Cultural, Social and even religious reasons. I don't have much information so I won't be commenting too much on that.

However I will talk about what I do know a reliance on welfare births - entitlement and exploitativeness (if that's a word). It may not be completely unrelated to what the pushback currently happening. When a system is set up to incentize unproductivity and unethical behaviour you can be rest assured that there will be those who will target that flaw. When the productive members of a society are not encouraged to keep being productive, then there will ultimately be a crossroads.

Hopefully those who are a lot smarter than I am will figure out the solution to my concerns about a welfare system. You just cannot expect human beings to simply act uprightly out of the good of their hearts. The job market isn't perfect, but simply letting people opt out and rewarding them will no doubt create an unending but silent resentment that will eventually manifest with enough time.
