I like how we dedicate ourselves to various causes and endeavours that add more meaning to our lives. As selfish as the World has become, it takes nothing to quickly realize that true satisfaction comes from upholding something bigger than ourselves. True how we quickly align with whatever we deem a 'worthy enough cause and fit' in our era as we give definition to our lives.
The selection process for what constitutes a worthty cause is itself quite flawed. Many simply jump ship onto the most popular causes for the day, be they right or wrong, and convince themselves of the contributions they make even when those commitments have low to no impact on the concern. Perhaps this flaw in choosing which battles to fight is why we still feel empty and unsatisfied even when we dedicate ourselves to the cause.
I have little doubts that committing to a truly worthy cause will provide all the fulfilment that we seek. It is rare for instance to find a parent who is doesn't find meaning in raising their kids, regardless of what modern society may want us to believe. We just get carried away with the endgame sometimes that we forget the real difficulties expectations of day to day demands from us.
Yet somehow we have been encouraged not to lower those expectations, and accept anything short. I don't think many of us are truly ready to pay the price for the realization of a good position of our expectations. The cost is heavy and often demands a significant amount of our time. Yet the endgame for those who have gone through the process is well worth the discomfort.
The capacity for meeting true expectations needs to be built over a sustained amount of time
