As part of writing content for creative skills I wrote this article to teach some interested members of this community how to make liquid soap.
Most of the picture I used were the ones I was able to take due to the fact that during that time like 5 years ago I haven’t heard of hive so I couldn’t lay hands on those pictures anymore. But this article will be way too practical.
How to make liquid soap
The following are the basics of liquid soap making process.
Fermentation
Dissolving
Fermentation has to do with soaking chemicals in water to reduce their harsh or harmful effect when applied on the skin.
Dissolving has to do with soaking chemicals in water to reduce their particle size. there are some chemicals which appear a like a molecule. It has to be dissolved in water.
Chemicals used in the production process of liquid soap and their function
Nitrosol
Nitrosol is a chemical that aids to thicken the liquid soap. In a nutshell a soap can be thick but not able to cleanse a dirty cloth. That’s the role of nitrosol.
Caustic soda
Caustic soda is a chemical responsible for removing stains. It does the job along side with soda ash.
Soda ash
This is a chemical that regulates the caustic soda for removing stain in form of dirt’s from clothes.
Texapom
Texapom is a chemical used in liquid soap as a foaming agent. It helps produce foamy bubbles when you wash.
Sulphonic acid
This is a chemical that also aids foaming to produce bubbles. That’s the job of sulphonic acid.
Sodium laurel sulphate (SLS)
This is used to aid foaming of the soap. It’s when you want to carry out a standard production for a hotel, bank, church you can combine the foaming agents but a single or any two is okay for production.
E.d.t.a
It is a preservative for the soap to last over for 6 months.
Color
It adds color to the soap.
Fragrance
It aids adds fragrance to the soap. Popular fragrances are lemon, apple or ambiphur.
Glycerin
It serves as a hand moisturizer. There are some soaps you use and you hand begins to peel off. The role of glycerin is to moisturize the hands after using the soap.
How To Make Liquid Soap
If you are interested in making liquid soap for standard 10 litres production. If you wish to carry out for 20 liters multiply the quantity of those chemicals by 2.
Go to a chemical store and request the following
Nitrosol (1/8kg)
Caustic soda (1/8kg)
Soda ash (½ kg)
Texapom (1/8kg)
Sulphonic acid 1 litre
Foam boaster ½ litre
Sls (1/8kg)
E.D.T.A 1 wrap
Color: waterbase
Fragrance 30mls
Glycerene 40mls.
Process of preparing liquid soap
Prepare five buckets including bowl labeled A – E
Pour 10 litres of water into bowel A.
Take out 1 litre from A into B.
Put (1/8kg) of caustic soda into B. Stir properly, leave for an hour to ferment.
Take out two liters of water from Bowel A and put in Bowel C.
Pour 1/2kg of soda ash and stir in one direction. Leave for an hour.
Take out one litre of water From Bowel A and pour into bowel D.
Add (1/8kg) of SLS into bowel D and stir in one direction. Leave for an hour to dissolve.
Take ½ litre of water from bowel A and put into bowel E.
Pour I wrap of water based color into Bowel E and stir in one direction.
Pour one wrap of e.d.t.a into the remaining water in bowel A.
Add the content of bowel B (Nitrosol) into bowel A and stir in one direction.
Add 1/8 kg of texapom into mixtures in bowel A and stir.
Add 1 litre of sulphonic acid to the content in bowel A and stir.
Add the content of bowel D (dissolved sls) water and stir.
Add ½ litre of foam boaster and stir properly.
Add glycerin and stir.
Add the content of bowel E. (dissolved color) into bowel A and stir.
Allow the mixture to be soaked for some hours before packaging.
Precautions
Use hand gloves to prevent direct contact with chemicals.
Avoid stirring your mixture in opposite direction. Stir in one direction.
Conclusion
This article has been able to present something creative just by making liquid soap in simple steps. You can package them for sale or use domestically.
