Garden planning

Gardening discussions occasionally happen with my housemate, but are mostly prompted by me when the green things are doing what they tend to do - grow too big for their containers. We've managed to transform his garden into quite a nice place in the last few months, but with the last couple weeks of rain, everything has become very marshy. It's not ideal and rather annoying really, but it will hopefully dry out some in the next while.

The tomatoes that I planted accidentally from kitchen green waste in the square planter have grown to over a metre tall, but they are very badly orientated so haven't been getting much sun. When I last checked on the fruit, they were still green after four weeks and have been eaten by all manner of snail and slug, so I've had to turf most of them. I disappointedly showed my housemate and suggested we do another batch in a sunnier spot. I was happy when he agreed and was quite eager for us to try again but do it better this time...he really wants to be able to make his own pasta sauces.

I also noticed that the succulent in the image above is now almost too big for the pot I put it in half a year back, so I asked for some direction as to whether to repot it into a bigger pot and use the original for a smaller succulent. He started brainstorming and thought we should just do a big succulent planter instead and put them all in there like a mosaic with the closing "let's make that happen". It's always nice to bounce these things off him, although in truth, I kind of have to out of respect - it's his space so I'm not going to just take over and do stuff in his garden that I might like but he might not. If it was my space, I'd probably be stealing his timber offcuts to make these below, they are the cutest upcycle us of wooden blocks I've seen in a while.

Good communication is always so important when it comes to things like this and I think I've shared enough space with people in work and general life situations to be respectful of boundaries and to ask before just ploughing ahead with ideas or actions. Getting the "go-ahead" for the tomato moving idea and where we should put the succulents was so positive and I'm quite excited to get some things happening in the garden again once the weather warms up.
