Saying thanks to the people who makes this site special
I have now been on steemit for about three weeks, and it is time to look back on the experience. As i joined in the middle of exams, i haven’t been able to spend as much time on the website as i would have like. The time i have spend have however been quite lovely, and as i handed in my final exam last friday (and subsequently slept for 2 days, it is now time to think about why it was such a nice experience.
Why is this necessary? Because i want this website to survive and thrive, and the most important aspect of this is the inflow of new, active and passionate users. In order to attract these type of people, and in order to have them stay on the platform, we need to give them a warm welcome, and a good experience.
One of the issues i see on this website, in terms of keeping long term users, is the expectations of new members. Quite a big percentage of blog posts is about the writer being disappointed in his or her “income” from steemit, and this is frankly too bad
While it is definitely awesome that we are able to make money, or even a living on steemit, we shouldn’t be too focused on this fact.
Very few people join sites like reddit or youtube with only the aim of making money, and if this is your exclusive goal, you’ll have an awful time. What we need on this site is passion. Whether this passion is aimed towards cryptocurrency, art, food, science, politics or something completely different, is of no concern. What we need is for people to continue making great content, where in the writing process alone makes them happy. The joy of sharing ideas and thought should be first, and the income second.
Now, this might only be silly idealism from my part, but i do sincerely believe it. And i am in no way above saying that the money you can make is awesome, i was very excited to see my two posts go above 30 bucks. But it was not what my time here great. The thing that did make my time great was the People.
People are awesome
I am writing about some very random, niche stuff. It’s mostly about nerdy stuff like 3d printing, and growing fake leather in my closet, so i was surprised to see such positive feedback. Therefore i have used the evening to write this in order to say thank you to the people who gave me a warm welcome. Some of them you might know, but in either case, they all seem like lovely people, and i’m sure they’re worth checking out. Note that they are in random order :)

She was one of the first people who actually seemed to take a genuine interest in what i was writing, and her feedback made me confident that i could make it here on steemit, even though i was writing about stuff that had nothing to do with cryptocurrency. She offered advice, and to give help, and for that i am very grateful. She is an artist, and seems to be at talented writer, looking at her blog. So definitely check her out.
https://steemit.com/@geekpowered
Here is someone who has given me great advice on multiple posts. Whether it was about bacterial leather, of 3d printed steem coins, this user has engaged in great discussion, which has helped me take my projects much further. The reason i came to this website was to share my ideas, and to receive valuable feedback, and so far, geekpowered has not let me down. He was also one of the first people to introduce me to the steemstem community, which again, is awesome. You should all go check both geekpowered, and steemstem out!
https://steemit.com/@kate-m
Again, one of the first people to comment on my blog with interest. Again, being met with interest from the beginning gives a confidence boost that made me wanna stick with this website. Kate is a scientist and seems to do a lot of interesting stuff on her blog, so give it a visit if you have the time.

Mike was the first curator to actually include my post in one of those “Top daily fives” type of curation posts. Getting this type of validation on your first post really do mean a lot. I am on this platform to get feedback on my ideas. As i am writing about my Bachelors project on my blog, getting new feedback, and new ideas, from strangers is invaluable. so having my post shared is invaluable.

I believe he was the first person, to comment on my first post, and give me some really valuable advice. He also offered to help if i needed anything, and it drew a really nice picture of the people on this platform. We need to help each other on this platform, so a huge thank you to this guy.

Here’s another one who partook in a nice talk about my post with me. He even had some advice about Kombucha. What i value most about steemit is participating in discussion, cobmaximus is a great example of this.

Majes really took the time to help explain the ins and out of steemit to me. As a new user, i new nothing about the ins and out of writing a decent post, or how to format it properly (And i still don’t know a lot), and this user gave a ton of insight into how to do it properly. Making your post the right length, and finding the right mix between text and images, is tricky, but it is users like Majes that makes us newbies more secure in our writing, and in turn, the website end up with greater content.

This guy introduced me to SteemStem, the science part of steemit. It opened my eyes toward a ton of great content on steemit, and i met a lot of great people in the community. People seem to be giving great feedback here, and most importantly, the content is beyond awesome. There’s a ton to learn, and we need more of this on steem.

Max gave some very nice feedback on one of my posts about printing money, and made me believe that it would actually be of interest to the people of steemit. Moreover, he nominated my post for @OCD, which i am very grateful for. It’s always heartwarming when people appreciate what you do, and it made me wanna use steemit even more.
https://steemit.com/@kryzsec
Kryzsec, or Brodie gave me a ton of great advice, both as to how to format my posts, and how to go on with my project on printing money. I have really appreciated the feedback, which i am really happy about. He helped me understand how i could create individual steem wallets, which helped me a lot with my coin project.
https://steemit.com/@freedomexists
Freedomexists chose to curate my post about 3d printed coins, and talked about it on peace, abundance, liberty on steemit. Unfortunately, i couldn’t hear the whole thing, as i was writing my exams late at night, but i did get to hear the last part of it. Even though i didn’t hear everything, i am extremely grateful for being chosen. So thanks a ton freedom!

Nico is a graphics designer and a new user on steemit. He does some really interesting stuff, and has a youtube channel that is well worth checking out. he also gives great feedback, so definetely go check his blog out, i don’t think you’ll be dissapointed.
https://steemit.com/@krazykrista
Krazykrista does a lot of great work on the whaleshares discord server, but most importantly, she seems really nice. I spend some time on the discord server, and she does a good job of helping new users. So for that i am very thankful. Also, she does some really nice blog posts, which is definetely worth checking out. I especially like her poetry.
Thank you!
It is people like these who makes this site special, and we need many more of these types of users to make steemit go even further. They are a big part of the reason for why i want to continue using the site, and i feel like learning from them could be a big help in terms of welcoming new users. I want to see steemit succeed, and these people have inspired me to behave this way towards new members. I can’t wait to get back to my projects, and make content for this wonderful website. Moreover, i can’t wait to give new members the warm welcome i recieved from the above people :)
So that is all for today, i simply wanted to say thank you. Nothing too fancy, i know. I hope you’ll all have a wonderful december, and that you’re warm and cozy.
Cheers
