Experimenting with different ways to create a digital portrait. I emphasized the light and shadow relationship to show forms of the subject's face more clearly. The other colors are supporting actors. I actually prefer the simpler version that shows base skin color and shadow layers, no lines. The darker green background color looks better with the pink/red of the subject.
Thoughts
Line drawing with bucket fill using layers for each section seems like the most straightforward way to go. Neat and tidy, like a coloring book. Also flat.
Using brush/es to build texture and form on top of sketch using layers offers a different kind of effect. Painterly vives. Perfect imperfection.
I see the benefits to both methods. Preference depends on desired result, I suppose. There are so many ways to skin a cat. Figuratively speaking, of course.
In Closing
Keep working with different methods. Use what works, shed what doesn't. Increase efficiency and loosen up the strokes.
