Revisit, evaluate, and if necessary, adjust your goals. Keep a written record of your goals in a place where you’ll remember to read them every day. They’ll change and adjust over time as your life does, so keep them up-to-date.
Make contingency plans. Never forget about the problems that might come up on the way, and prepare for them.
Be open to new opportunities and options that come your way. Sometimes, things have a way of unintentionally leading you exactly where you want to go.
Persevere. Now that you have the momentum going, don’t let it stop! Avoid distractions and stay focused.
Imitating successful people is a technique used in so many other facets of our lives, but one you rarely practice when it comes to goal setting but it really works here too. Ask yourself: What can I learn from others who have gone before?
Old habits often die hard, and new habits take time to form. Take a tip from the sports world, and realise that doing anything well comes from doing it over and over and over. The more you practice a different way of doing something the more it becomes part of who you are. Remind yourself that it won’t come easy at first, but that’s no reason to give up. Give it time. Keep trying.
When working on making changes to your life, it’s very important to surround yourself with positive people who support what you are doing, and who will be ready to encourage you when you fall.
