Follow-up to this morning's post.
After a heart attack, a panic attack, an inspection by my neighbor and a LOT of cleanup..... My car's not dead.
.....and it was an oil-change-rookie mistake.

The old oil filter's gasket/seal didn't come off with the filter removal and I "double gasketed" it.

Apparently this is a rookie mistake, but I've changed my own oil and friends' oil 15-20 time's in my life and I've never had this happen.

Unlike that example, mine was spraying out and dumped 50% or more of the oil in just a matter of seconds.

The oil filter and gasket didn't occur to me as the problem when I looked for what happened because that was the one area that was not soaked in oil! (As you can see here)

Ummm.....I said that, and didnt notice it so much before, but now as I select that image I do see it looks shiny like oil is on it. I guess that is just not where all the oil was dripping down from.... Which makes sense if it all sprayed out and away from the filter.

Well, to all the homesteaders and diyers out there, I hope this is a good reminder or lesson:
When you change your own oil, make sure the old gasket/seal comes off of the engine.

Now I know, and, in the famous G.I.Joe tag line: "knowing is half the battle!!"

In further news:

I did make it to the airport in time. There was almost no slow traffic, so I was able to cover the miles quickly!!

And thanks to it being a stupid gasket and not a rupture in the side of the engine block, I am in much better spirits!! That really had me worked up! Wonderful weekend and week, HERE I COME!! :-P
