Feels like it's time to lighten up anyway. That's what it means to be enlightened after all, right?
For me, expressing myself tends to leave me feeling like a weight has been lifted, as though I've shed a heavy layer, and am able to walk the world with more spring in my step!
Since I want to start sharing my original poetry (I'm a little nervous - wouldn't you be??) I figure I'll start with a poem from way back.
I wrote this poem when I was about 9 I think.
I am enlightened.
I am like a dove soaring above the world.
I am lightheaded and distracted.
I am enlightened.
I've been fascinated by words for a long time... Two-thirds of my life at least.
Words that seem like they could mean something different from what their common usage is really intrigue me. Apparently I liked playing with that even as a kid. I guess some like baseball and some like scrabble... :)
I want to share my poetry with you because I'm working on being vulnerable and expressive... i.e. doing things that scare me, like sharing my truth! Ahh!! but it feels SO GOOD. I believe it makes the world a better place, and I know it makes my world feel better.
Inspiration!
So I was just at the EcoSex convergence (http://ecosexorcasisland.org) on Orcas Island, WA! That's where I met the amazing Kenny of @kennyskitchen (I was delivering the kitchen, and helping organize the event) which is how I now know that
@steemit and
@tribesteemit are a thing. Yay!
At EcoSex there are several paths: basically each path is a series of workshops facilitated by 2+ people over the course of the 3 main days of the gathering. You get to choose your path when you register in advance, which I did many months ago and had since totally forgotten about. I actually thought I was going to be on a different path than the one I got and at first started to get antsy and think about seeing if I could switch... But a voice in my head said "there's something important to learn here" and I'm so grateful to myself for sticking with it! Even though the other path seemed really fun (I could see them over there moving and shaking and literally doing the hokey pokey on the first night), I'm so glad I got to be on the poetry path!
The facilitators guiding this path were amazingggg, and so are Mary Oliver, Nayyirah Waheed, Pablo Neruda, and the other inspiring poets we read together and hugged over that weekend.
Our path guides invited us to loosen up our minds, to feel into our bodies, and to write whatever however whenever the energy was flowing. I loved it and I don't want to stop! So I've made a commitment to myself to continue walking this path of inspiration and empowerment, by expressing myself with my writing and art more consistently. For me that means developing a practice of writing that I feel inspired by. Meeting Kenny and feeling how inspired he is by writing and sharing on this platform was totally contagious and motivated me to start manifesting some dreams I've been letting sit for a while. Feels like now is the time!
My Philosophy
I believe expression is pretty much the greatest thing in the world. What a miraculous gift to be able to tap into! My personal journey has brought me to a place where I am eager and often a little scared to share what bubbles up in me. From expressing my feelings and desires to sharing my original poetry and songs, the journey to be vulnerable and courageous is not always easy for me. I've had major fears of what others would think and huge uncertainties about what I am even feeling...
Now I'm feeling into what it's like to truly listen to myself, reminding myself to breathe deep and feel what my body has to say. Being honest with myself and others is really helping. So I'm talking, singing, drawing, dancing, painting, making love, and expressing myself more consciously, creatively, and courageously. And it feels so good!
I don't know what's going to flow out of me, but I'm excited to keep writing and start sharing.. My sense is that by opening myself up in this way to others AND (probably most importantly) to myself, I will reach new depths and realize big things. I'm so excited!
If you're reading this, thanks for that!!! I'd love to hear from you... and get to feel what it's like to read comments - whoa..!
Such Love~
P.S. I still love scrabble :)
