This is quite an interesting scenario. There are times I’ve actually wondered how it would be like if I suddenly found myself next to the younger version of me. There would definitely be so many things to gist about, and also reckon that he would have a lot of questions to ask me; some I may have the answers to and some I may sadly not know how to answer.

I know at that point in his life he probably would be very optimistic of things playing out exactly as he planned. I wouldn’t come over to tell him to lose all or stop believing in his dreams and aspirations. But what I’d let him know is that sometimes things may not occur the moment we want them to occur. There are occasions that would probably come in his life that he’d start comparing himself to his peers and feel like he is left behind. I’ll make sure to knock off that mindset from him and let him know that delay is not denial. He has to know that everyone has their own timing in life.

Another thing I’d let him know is that sometimes life doesn’t really go the way that we thought that it would. And in some cases it is actually for the best. So just incase expectations don’t go the trajectory that he hoped for doesn’t mean that he should beat himself up. What it simply means is that the universe had much bigger plans for him.

One of the things I was scared of when I was about his age was making mistakes. I’ll tell him how a great deal that phobia cost me a lot of things and encourage him to overcome such fear so that it doesn’t cost me things in the future like it did me. I’ll tell him the greatest lessons I learned in life is when I became willing to start taking chances and making mistakes.

I’d then warn him to be extremely careful of the way he trusts people he comes in touch with. Just because people smile with him doesn’t mean they have his best interest in heart. There are some people that would leave his life when things are not all that palatable and he should beat himself okay with it because that is when he’d know who his real friends are.

Another important thing I’d not forget to say to him is not to be too hard on himself. I know they’ll be times he’ll feel pressured to meeting up with expectations from family and meeting up with deadlines. But this should not at any point in time take away his peace. For every problems he gets sorted out there’ll always be a queue of others waiting for him. So getting himself worked up is not worth it.

I’d then open my ears to him to hear if he’d have any questions for me (of course he’s going to have questions to ask). I’ll do well to answer the ones I can, and for the ones I can I’ll honestly let him know I don’t have the answers. I’ll be very open with him about it so that he knows there are still things I also have not figured out just yet. And that’s about the same thing with almost everybody.

It’s going to be a very rare opportunity I’d be much grateful to have, even if it’s just for one day.
