Hello, friends
Today my son Carlos will travel alone to Havana for the first time.

He's already 16 years old, and it's a safe trip. Plus, they pick him up at the terminal upon arrival. However, as much as I think about all the positive and safety details, my maternal fear prefers to keep him under my wing, safe here in the nest.

Abel tells me it's no problem. He says: Many music students in his class travel to their provinces every month, and they do it alone.
When I told him that Carlitos has never traveled alone, he said something I couldn't refute: There's a first time for everything
And he's right.
Also, as a mother, I have to allow them to have their own experiences, their independence, and also to feel like they're growing up and that we can trust them.
As much as it hurts, I have to let it go, because when they grow older and want to live their own lives, they have to be prepared.
And so do I.

As mothers, part of our job is to prepare our children for life.
I know that, even though it terrifies me.
Abel told me another truth: you have to trust yourself, in what you've taught and prepared them for. What's the point of so much theory if you don't put it into practice?

I'll tell you tomorrow 馃檹. I've worked up the courage, and if we want to go on vacation to Havana, I have to trust in the work I've done as a mother. Trust in my son.
His independence is part of my job as a mother. No matter where he flies, I'll always be here watching over the nest.

Hola, amigos
