Today, I woke up to the sounds of hammers hitting concrete. Maybe somebody is repairing the home for the winter. Then my house help came, and we were having a casual conversation about snow.
She said, our Devata(th that our Devata (the concept of God here) asked to demolish a tank that was built around a water source and let it be the way it was before the concrete tank was builtey won’t grant snow for the village.
Himalayan villages have a strong belief system. They consider their devatas and their orders and suggestions above everything. They ask their God before starting something, before making a decision, when they fall sick, when something goes wrong, when they want to do something in the village… basically for everything, they take permission from their Devata.
I think I’ve written about this concept and many interesting facts about it before. So, coming back to today. So, this blog is not a picturesque blog but a real-time update one.
Since they got this message about the tank yesterday, the villagers gathered around the water tank and started breaking the concrete in the morning itself. That was the sound I was waking up to. It was a gathering of many people, mostly men, doing the task manually. There was a huge bonfire that was going on from the morning when they started the work.
After a point, when they removed the first part, there was a huge block of ice and it was pretty difficult to remove. By the end of the day, the tank was gone and later I heard they built a wooden structure there.
Well, for the result, we’ll have to wait and see. There is also a forecast for snow for the coming day but there were such forecasts many times before this year. As for the villagers, everyone is 100 per cent sure the snow will be there after they do as their Devata suggested.
It is written on January 21st. As for today, we're enjoying all the sun we're getting here.
