Kasol is known for its Cannabis quality and naturally Kasol market is known for its Trippy vibes. It was in my itenerary to visit Kasol market on the first day itself to get all the clothes I need for the winter in this part of the Himalayas.
I was under the impression of seeing snowfall when I reached here. But, snowfall happens in Kasol and surrounding parts later in the winter. It happens mostly in January. Now, it feels hot when I go out during the day with all the sunshine. However, it is cold the other times. So, I do need winter clothes but much different ones than I expected!
Kasol market is in the heart of Kasol. There are local state transport buses that go there. The cabs are also available. Or, if you have your own vehicle or you rent one, the map takes you to the exact location.
I was a bit disappointed at first reaching this market. My imagination of this market came from all the reels and YouTube videos I watched of this market. They were all so nice with colourful clothes and accessories.
However, nobody really showed how crowded the place actually is and the congestion! Contrary to my imagination of a big market with long lanes of shops, this whole market is a small street market. There are shops and restaurants on the other side of the market.
Most clothes have a similar psychedelic feel to it. There were different types of wool and other materials available.
Sweaters were one of my first options to buy. They had it in different varieties with varying prices. Some of them were yak wool. Most of them were handmade. There were traditional printed sweaters as well. However, I passed the sweaters and moved to other things to buy.
The pants were also similar in print. There were simple hippy pants which are meant for summer, warm ones, double warm ones and more. Some of them had a furry wool inside and some of them were just made of a thick material. All of them were made from shawls.
There were many co-ord sets as well.
I ended up buying one pant from there.
One of the highlight of the market is bags and wallets made from hemp. I always wanted to buy bags made of hemp. I ended up buying 3 different categories of bags from this shop.
One of my first clients in my content marketing career was a CBD company. I did a lot of research for them and was always fascinated with the idea of using hemp as a sustainable alternative. However, I never saw or used any hemp products. So, this was a happy moment for me!
I’m really fascinated with the winter and winter clothing since we don’t have it back home in Kerala. Kasol market has a lot of socks, gloves and headpieces in different materials and patterns. I ended up buying a few and controlled my temptation buy a lot!
The shopkeeper showed a lot of varieties in designs and patterns. There were tailors as well who were making the products inside many shops.
Many shops had dreamcatchers made of different materials. There were a few large ones as well. The macramé ones in particular looked pretty.
There were other souvenirs as well like keychains and more. It was a little bit difficult to let go of the thought of buying a lot when you’re in this market. However, the busy street and crowd made me cancel my plans of spending a lot of time to capture the beauty. In fact, I wanted to show the real picture of the market.
