Majority of the top 100 coins are all referencing each other, in some form or another. And most of them are OPEN SOURCE. The main point is what you do with the technology and how you can market it. I doubt a high profile, and Forbes 30 Under 30 - Asia - Consumer Technology person like Justin is doing this just to make some quick bucks. His building partnerships, and in a market with the heaviest users of Cryptocurrency.
