Fledglings spend several days to a week on the ground hopping around and practicing hopping/fluttering before they can actually take flight. Technically, you should have left it where it was. The parents will be around somewhere to feed it. Unfortunately, people think they've been abandoned and pick them up. Can you put it back and watch from afar? The parents will usually appear within an hour.
