On my recent holiday, the weather was hot and sunny every day. Most people focus on the clear skies, but I spent my time looking down at the ground instead. Bright sun makes strong shadows, which gave me plenty to photograph! I decided to edit all these photos in black and white to make the shadows stand out even more.
One afternoon by Lake Titisee, in Germany, a hire boat was resting on the dry sand. The sunlight hit the front, throwing a solid black triangle shadow across the sand. Funnily enough, I wasn't the only one taking photos of shadows that day.

In Triberg in the Black Forest region of Germany, the sun shone directly through the high railings on an footbridge. It created a set of dark parallel bars across the concrete floor. The dark lines looked like a metal grid laid flat on the ground.
Out for a walk, we crossed a small wooden bridge with the pooch. The low sun pushed the shadow of the bridge railings far down the path. The pooch stepped through the dark lines as we walked along. He's a very obliging model!
