After complaining about how hot it had been, our plan was to have a bike ride down at our local canal as it was supposed to be cooler today. Unfortunately, it had decided to rain most of the morning, so we ended up calling in for a coffee at Katey's Coffee Shop on the canal towpath instead. Any excuse for a coffee!

A frothy latte and a black americano were very welcome on a very wet morning. There was an information shop next door with leaflets advertising boat trips down the canal.

There weren't a lot of people out, but people who live nearby still popped in to meet friends for a cuppa. It seemed to be mostly men in the cafe, but overhearing their conversations, it appeared their wives had persuaded them to go out!

One cyclist had decided to brave the wet weather.

After a break in the rain, we managed an hour's walk along the towpath but returned to the cafe for toasties and salad with another latte.

We enjoyed our visit to Katey’s Coffee Shop. It was nothing fancy, but it's in a lovely spot on the Chesterfield Canal. They are always very pleasant, whoever serves you.

It would have been nice to have sat outside, but the rain put paid to that. It definitely was the weather for ducks!
