We visited Attenborough Nature Reserve, which lies in the neighbouring county of Nottinghamshire. It is a lovely place to explore, especially if you like bird watching. There are numerous bird hides you can use. Their access codes are available from the visitor centre. The visitor centre has certain activities for young and old, a shop that sells everything from books, crafts, binoculars, food etc. There is also a café with indoor and outdoor seating. If you sit outside, you have a lovely view over the reservoir.
Sometimes, the silly swans will lay in the most awkward of places, so visitors have to walk around them.
They do find their way back onto the lake, though.
Some of the viewing areas were completely flooded.
The black headed gulls usually hang around in small flocks and are very noisy and argumentive, especially when food is about.
The Gadwall duck is quite pretty with its stripey and speckled grey colour, black rear end, and you can see a white patch on its wing when its in flight.
There are a lot more snowdrops about. They usually appear in January and February time but I've seen some coming through in December.
There's a small charge of £3 for a full days parking. All the money goes towards the running costs of the nature reserve. There really is something for everyone at the reserve and it's a lovely spot.
