I hear what you are saying. Quite honestly, it doesn't have to be expensive to be useful, valuable, made well or a host of other attributes.

I've never really understood why people have to have the designer stuff. You are right; it often brings disquiet to the person's life for the reasons you listed, plus there comes the addiction of having to have the latest version of whatever it is that one covets.

Money is better spent on the things that one needs for themselves, their family or the community.
