Dogs do make lovely companions! Our family dog, in fact, actually saved my son's life a few years ago! She is no longer of this world, but we will never forget her.

As for trusting people; that can be hard, especially when you've been hurt. I'd like to believe everyone is good, but I have run into those who appear to not be. I understand where you are coming from.
