Ok, first I'll explain what's the deal with these posts, have you ever seen a post and want to make a comment expanding on something you just read but a simple comment just doesn't quite cut it? Like, ok I'll comment but this is gonna be 10000000 words minimum? Yeah, it happens to the best of us, even me, yeah! So, Footnotes is going to be a series of posts doing exactly that, some cool posts may call me to expand on them and I'll humbly _{(who am I kidding? I'm the shit!!!)} do my best to explain something that I think needs some more explaining, for this first issue of Footnotes I'll be rambling about a post (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Parte 1 | The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Part 1 [ESP | EN]) I collaborated _{from the shadows} with @dimeshana about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim so without further ado let's begin!

Dov - ah - kiin? NOOO!

Yeah, that's what he said, but there's something very peculiar in the way he said it, some hidden meaning, and what's that? Well, besides the fact that he is an overdramatic giant, flying lizard who just realized he fucked up messing around with the Dragonborn and his soul was gonna be devoured, he lets us a hint of how the dragons talk, a bit of knowledge about their ancient language and culture. _{YEAH!!!! GAME LORE!!!!}

You see, every dragon name is a complex "Rotmulaag" (rot = word, mulaag = power/strength) or "Word of Power", these "Words of Power" consists on three other words, each of those has a meaning, this unique combination give a higher meaning to every dragon name, for example, the scaly drama queen above was called Mirmulnir, Mir - Mul - Nir literally means "Allegiance Strong Hunt", we could translate it to Strong Allegiance to the Hunt, and it makes a lot of sense if knowing that this is the first dragon we encounter in the main storyline after the Awakening of his master Alduin, really loyal to the Allegiance if you ask me, too bad he ded!

And what in Oblivion that has to do with the Dragonborn? Dovahkiin is literally Dragonborn, right? RIGHT? Well, yeah if you are a normie, milk drinker who separates his name Dovah (Dragon) - Kiin (Born). No no no, here we all are of Sossedov - Dragonblood and we separate it Dov - Ah - Kiin, a Rotmulaag, a real dragon name with real dragon meaning, the real shit! And this shit really changes things, because Kiin stays the same, but Dov means Dragon Kind, the race of dragons, and Ah is the real twist meaning Hunter, this, if we read it as a Word of Power we could translate it as Born Hunter of the Dragonkind, which if you ask me goes more accordingly to our character's curriculum!

So, yeah, you came here, to read a bit about Skyrim and ended up going into a rabbit hole about the etymological intricacies of the Dragon Language, but hey next time you're playing no dragon can correct you about your grammar!
