Boxing fans will be upset to learn that Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker was tragically when he was hit by a car will crossing a street. This happened in Virginia.
He was 55 years old.
Whitaker was an Olympic hero picking up gold in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
After turning pro, he was considered to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world for a number of years. His career spanned until 2001 amassing a 40-4-1 record. He had 17 knockouts.
